How High Can Powerball Jackpots Grow?

Author: Tino Sundin

Why do you play the lottery? Let me guess, it's to win as much money as possible, right? Right! So you probably salivate every time the Powerball jackpot grows to more than $100 million. If that's so, you probably get extra antsy when it reaches $200 million. But the very few times that it actually surpassed $300 million probably put you in a daze, dreaming about all of the possibilities if you win.

Then when the $300 million plus Powerball jackpot is won by someone else, you feel very disappointed that it wasn't you. Don't worry, that happens to all of us. But the good news is that it will become more commonplace to see $300 million plus Powerball lottery jackpots in the future.

Not only will $300 million plus Powerball jackpots be more common, but we will also see Powerball jackpots grow into record territories shortly. Why will this be happening and how high can the Powerball jackpots actually grow?

Bigger Powerball jackpots will begin to become more commonplace due to some changes that Powerball made to it's game on January the 15th, 2012. On that day, the ticket price increased, from $1 to $2.

The ticket price increase will do two things to the size of the jackpots. Because of more revenue coming in from ticket sales, the jackpots will be bigger. Not only will they be bigger, but they will also grow at a faster velocity.

Currently, the biggest ever Poweball jackpot won was $365 million. That was won by a group of eight co-workers in Nebraska that pooled their money together to buy tickets as a group. Now, mark my words... It won't take very long for that $365 million record to be surpassed with the new rule changes. In fact, I predict it won't take more than a handful of months to surpass it.

But when the current record is surpassed, how high can the jackpot grow after that? Well, with the new rules, Powerball officials predict that there will be at least one Powerball jackpot that reaches the $1 billion mark within the next ten years.

How does winning a $1 billion prize sound to you? Probably much better than the $300 million prizes you currently daydream about, right? So when you miss your chance and see other people winning big Powerball prizes, don't worry too much about it; you'll be getting many more chances, much more than you're used to, to win huge prizes and, maybe one day soon, you'll get a chance to win $1 billion.
